When is the application window?

Applications run between April and June each year through the Odyssey portal. The program has been open to all Iowa students since 2025-26.

Do I pay anything up front?

Where Aristotle supports Direct Pay, no: your ESA pays Aristotle directly through the program portal. Other programs use reimbursement, meaning you pay first and submit documentation for approval. We will confirm which method applies before you enroll.

What paperwork does Aristotle provide?

Everything your program requires: itemized invoices with the student's name, service dates, and subjects covered. We also provide progress reports and vendor approval documentation on request.

What if I have multiple children?

Each student's ESA funds are separate, so each student requires an individual invoice. We prepare these automatically when you sign up.

How is Aristotle different from ChatGPT or a homework app?

Answer apps hand your child the solution and forget them when the chat ends. Aristotle teaches the way expert tutors do: it asks your child to explain their thinking, finds the misconception underneath a wrong answer, and guides them with questions until they solve it themselves. How the Students First ESA works

Iowa's Students First ESA runs on Odyssey and has been open to all Iowa students since 2025–26, with one important requirement: the student must attend an accredited private school, because Iowa does not offer a homeschool track. The award is $8,148 for 2026–27, applied after tuition and fees. Apply between April and June via the Odyssey portal; details at educate.iowa.gov. Remaining funds may be used for tutoring, but only from state-approved providers in the Odyssey Marketplace.
