How much does a homeschool family receive from the CHOOSE Act?

Homeschooled students receive $2,000 per year, with a family maximum of $4,000. Students at participating schools receive $7,000 per year. Both tracks cover tutoring as an eligible expense.

When can I apply for the CHOOSE Act ESA?

Applications open between January and March each year through the CHOOSE Act portal. The program launched in 2025-26 and seats have been fully funded so far.

Do I pay anything up front?

Where Aristotle supports Direct Pay, no: your ESA pays Aristotle directly through the program portal. Other programs use reimbursement, meaning you pay first and submit documentation for approval. We will confirm which method applies before you enroll.

What paperwork does Aristotle provide?

Everything your program requires: itemized invoices with the student's name, service dates, and subjects covered. We also provide progress reports and vendor approval documentation on request.

What if I have multiple children?

Each student's ESA funds are separate, so each student requires an individual invoice. We prepare these automatically when you sign up.

How is Aristotle different from ChatGPT or a homework app?

Answer apps hand your child the solution and forget them when the chat ends. Aristotle teaches the way expert tutors do: it asks your child to explain their thinking, finds the misconception underneath a wrong answer, and guides them with questions until they solve it themselves. It remembers what your child has mastered and plans what to teach next.

How the CHOOSE Act ESA works

Alabama's CHOOSE Act ESA launched in 2025–26 and runs on ClassWallet. It is currently open to families at or below 300% of the federal poverty level, and beginning in 2027–28, all Alabama families will qualify. The award is $7,000 per student at participating schools, or $2,000 per homeschooled student (maximum $4,000 per family). Apply at chooseact.alabama.gov between January and March each year. The program is fully funded this year, with approximately 34,000 students approved.
