“Aristotle actually helps you work towards that problem, it's much more humanized, and it's just a better teacher.”

Olivia, an incoming freshman from Lafayette, has already seen the lazy version of AI use at school.

"Even in middle school, people are using AI just to cheat or help them write their essays," she said.

So what stood out about Aristotle wasn’t just that it used AI. It was that it used AI like a real teacher.

"I've never really heard of an AI tutor that isn't just like ChatGPT or Copilot, where you're just like, okay, just tell me the answer," Olivia said. "Aristotle actually helps you work towards that problem, it's much more humanized, and it's just a better teacher."

Scoring goals and setting goals

Olivia plays competitive soccer, is headed to a tournament in Sweden this summer, and is getting ready for an advanced math track in high school.

"I'm taking this advanced Algebra 2 class," she said. "I said, could you please teach me all the concepts. And then we started going through, day by day, each session, and continued from our last session."

Aristotle helped her build the course piece by piece, providing more continuity than just answering one-off questions.

Tutoring, unmuted

For Olivia, speaking to Aristotle changes the way she studies.

"It helps your mind go through, sort through your thoughts," she said. "If you get stuck when you're speaking, then it can help prompt you... instead of just giving you the answer."

She also likes that the conversation feels closer to a student-teacher relationship than a search box.

"Speaking to it helps you create a connection," she said. It is "helping you vocalize your thoughts instead of just writing it down."

AI for a better reason

Next, she wants to use Aristotle for pre-calculus, science, and English, especially "my grammar, my punctuation, my tone."

Olivia sees Aristotle as the direct antidote to LLM abuse. "It's using AI for a better reason. It's actually helping you with your schoolwork."
