“It’s one of the best things that ever happened to me.”

For Josh, summer isn’t exactly a relaxing vacation. He’s been playing basketball, traveling, spending time with family, and getting ready for 7th grade. Whether it’s managing his team or managing his time, Josh operates like a true point guard. That’s why Aristotle has been the perfect fit for Josh as he gets ahead before 7th grade.

Across 30+ tutoring sessions in only 25 days, Aristotle has helped Josh in the subjects that feel hardest to him: math and science. More recently, he’s been using Aristotle for reading and writing as well.

He discovered Aristotle after his mom saw an Instagram ad for AI tutoring. At first, Josh was skeptical, but he still gave it a try.

“Honestly, I loved it,” he said. “I like this better than regular tutoring, because you don’t have to go there. You can just pull up your computer and do a bunch of ten-minute sessions instead of scheduling an hour-long meeting.”

For Josh, that flexibility matters given his busy schedule. He tries to use Aristotle at least once a day, sometimes twice, moving between math, science, financial literacy, and reading and writing. Some days that means 30 or 40 minutes; other days, it’s a shorter session squeezed into a busy schedule.

“I usually just try to keep to the goal,” he said, “to do a session at least once a day.”

Less owl, more tutor

For Josh, the biggest factor is that Aristotle isn’t just another worksheet, chatbot, or gamified learning app. By talking with him, asking questions, and probing his understanding, Aristotle has become a real teacher.

Josh has tried other online learning platforms before, but he said they often feel more casual and game-like. Comparing Aristotle and Duolingo, his eyes lit up, “It’s not even close; Aristotle is interactive. It’s meant to teach schoolwork.”

Josh also called out how Aristotle prioritizes teaching concepts over giving away the answer.

“\[If you’re\] just asking for the answer,” he said, “\[Aristotle\] will teach you what the answer would be and how to actually get there.”

Josh talks back

Aristotle has helped Josh practice something deeper than any single math concept: asking for help out loud. Because of its voice-first design, Aristotle and Josh’s tutoring sessions are real conversations.

“I’m able to understand it. And if I’m being lazy, it’s like, ‘Come on, we’ll do it together. Let’s do it!’ So it makes me more focused.”

Josh described Aristotle as “almost like a real human,” but with less pressure than raising his hand in a classroom.

“Right now it’s just one-on-one,” he said, “so you’re able to talk whatever you want to it, and then you build confidence in talking aloud.” Aristotle gives him a way to think with someone, even when he’s studying independently.

Getting good at “I don’t get it

Josh’s mom has noticed that his interaction with Aristotle has changed over time. He's learned how to direct the tutor more clearly. Instead of waiting for Aristotle to guess where he's stuck, he's started saying things like, “I don’t understand that. Teach me. Show me step by step.”

Josh and Aristotle have reshaped tutoring from passive help into an active learning habit.

“If he’s not comfortable in something, he will ask Aristotle and it’ll back it up for him,” Josh’s mom said.

To her, this self-advocacy, along with the cross-subject flexibility, is one of the product’s most powerful qualities. Learning doesn't always happen in neat subject boxes, and Aristotle gives Josh room to follow the question wherever it leads.

Mom gets her time back

For their family, Aristotle has made it so much easier to support her son's learning. Without Aristotle, Josh’s mom would be preparing worksheets, finding materials, traveling to tutoring sessions, or hiring private tutors.

“It’s been the time saving,” she said, “in the sense of my own preparation to teach and provide the material. We’re saving on travel time, we’re also saving on gas, also money for the human tutor, in the sense that we don’t have to hire multiple tutors.”

The house that math built

The family is using Aristotle to build ahead over the summer, while cementing core knowledge.

Josh has explored subjects he hasn’t officially taken yet, including more advanced science and test-prep-style material. Despite not achieving instant mastery in these advanced topics, his mom sees the value in the exposure, confidence, and foundation that exploring his curiosity has offered.

That idea resonated with Josh too. He compared learning to building something strong from the ground up.

“You have to make a strong foundation in order to make a big building,” he said. “So we’re trying to move forward and make a good foundation.”

“The things you’re learning now are not going to go away,” Josh’s mom tells him. “It’s going to carry you through college.”

Josh, unfiltered

For Josh and his mom, Aristotle’s becoming more than a summer study tool. It’s a flexible, always-available learning companion that helps him practice, speak up, and build the confidence to keep going.

When asked how he would describe Aristotle to a friend, Josh did not hesitate.

“It’s super interactive. It’s fun. It gets you straight to the point. It tries to teach you a lot.” He paused, and then concluded, “I would say it’s one of the best things that ever happened to me.”
